So, it might not be quite 1 million thoughts, but it’s a hell of a lot more than one hundred. When I first said I was going to write 1 Million for Black!Hermione, I wanted to get it done in a year. I was ambitious I admit. After seeing the image below, I realized that I should cut myself some slack!
The Reality of 1 Million
The entire series rounds out to over one million words (~1.08 mil, but who is counting?), but it was published over the course of 10 years. I think I can give myself a lot more slack with regards to this challenge and say five years will be plenty impressive if I can get it done by November of 2021. (Sounds like a goal to me!)
Considering I probably average 500k+ words a year across all the stories I write, I think I at once overestimate and underestimate how much I can and should write. Carpal tunnel is real folks. I don’t have it (knock on wood) and I’m not trying to get it.
For anyone who is waiting to see the 1 Million here on Fanatic Musings, you can find it here, slowly being uploaded as I polish, edit, and sometimes revamp stories into their ultimate forms. It is a slow work in progress, but I plan to do it because I know they could be better. I wrote the first 600K in the span of a few months and it shows. I almost cringe at how much it shows.
Before I finish this 1 million, I want to be able to reupload it all to AO3 for archiving in its best form. I may consider posting the legacy version of the stories I change a great deal on, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
Maybe I’ll do a poll? I don’t know. We’ll see.
I want to write more than just fanfiction, Harry Potter or otherwise. I think I’m getting to the point where I’m actually ready to put my original stuff out into the world. While that comes with its own issues (personal and public), I’m looking forward to it!
I think it’s good practice though! I’m sure someone reading this thinks I”m insane for saying 1 million is “good practice.”
Sound’s a bit like “for a bit of light reading,” don’t you think?
